Excellence Finland and Sitra have given out honourable mentions for sustainable economics to four pioneering companies in Finland. MaaS Global was awarded for its long-term work in greener transport and mobility.

“From the beginning, sustainable services and economy have been the foundation of Maas Global’s development of Mobility as a Service. We’re particularly thrilled to be recognised for this work,” says Krista Huhtala-Jenks, Head of Ecosystem and Sustainability at Maas Global.

The awards for sustainable economics were given out for the first time this year by Excellence Finland and Sitra, with the ceremony taking place on Wednesday evening in Helsinki as part of the EFQM Forum. Honourable mentions were presented by Finland’s Minister of the Environment and Climate Change Krista Mikkonen, Excellence Finland’s Managing Director Tani Järvinen, and CEO of Sitra Mikko Kosonen.

The goal of these honourable mentions is to increase the importance and profile of sustainable economics amongst companies by highlighting successful examples of fresh, scalable business ideas in various industries, as well as encourage investment in sustainable economic practices. In addition to the honourable mentions, three sustainable business awards were given out.

“Businesses need to upgrade their operations to mitigate climate change, but fortunately these changes bring with them new business opportunities. In recent years, more and more Finnish companies have started to develop their business around sustainable economy. We want to inspire the rest to do so,” explains Sitra’s CEO Mikko Kosonen in a press release distributed by Excellence Finland.

The evaluation criteria included the interest of the sustainable business solution, the establishment of the company, its impact from a sustainable business and environment perspective, scalability, as well as its possibility to promote sustainable economics through its influence in the value chain and business networks. In addition to Whim, the three other honourable mentions were given to Nokia, Plan B from Outer Space / RePack, and Swappie.
